Ozzie trains with Vidal (Fantasy Scenario)
Since the news broke that Sounders Right Back DeAndre Yedlin will be training with Hannover 96, club of USMNT Right Back Steve Cherundolo, and a looming Dempsey loan during the offseason, I thought about a current Sounder that could benefit from training with a European player of significant status.
This is just basically a fantasy scenario. This won’t happen, but it is interesting to think about because there are certain European players that are similar to some Sounders player, and specifically Ozzie.
Osvaldo Alonso should train with Arturo Vidal of Juventus.
The box-to-box midfielder from Chile could really elevate Osvaldo Alonso to a new level because what Vidal does in helping in defense, he can add even more to the attack. Vidal scores one goal in about every three games, something that could really help the Sounders with, who last season struggled for goals. Ozzie is a more defensive minded player than Vidal, but they both excel with great engines, and the ability to transition the ball from the Centre Backs, through the midfield to the attacking players.
Ozzie has been the MVP of the Sounders every season since their Inception into Major League Soccer, but doesn’t really receive the national recognition he deserves. Every club that game plans for the Sounders makes sure to stay away from Ozzie so even when he isn’t in his best form, his reputation still helps him maintain a level of respect. Vidal is such a consistent player, even though he isn’t a household name. He is probably the most talented player in Italy, and one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
